BADASS MOFO
a True Story (sorta)
Sometimes I have a entertaining thought and need to capture it somewhere. This isn't a true story of something that happened to me, but something that I thought of. I know it's sorta breaking the rules, but hey, it's my website and I can break the rules if I want.
Here's the thought:
So I was thinking the other day, while a friend SCOTT SMITH* called me. I knew it was SCOTT SMITH because I have caller ID and he had signed up as SCOTT SMITH when he had his phone service installed.
Why SCOTT SMITH? Sure it's his name, but why not BADASS MOFO? It's not like the phone company cares what your name is, they just need a name and want someone to send in a check once a month.
If I called any of you from my house, and you had caller ID, you wouldn't see that MIKE GEYER is calling but KRISTIN LEWIS* instead -- that's because she set up the phone service, well before I moved in. This doesn't stop the phone company from cashing my checks when the bill is sent out and I pay it.
So, here's what we have to do. The next time you move into a new place, you should really consider what name you use when dealing with the phone company. Perhaps BADASS MOFO is a bit much but consider something original before simply giving your real name.
Besides, it will be extra fun when telemarketers call asking for a "BADASS MOFO".
Check this out. This American Life, a great radio program on NPR, did a story about someone who had his name listed with the phone company as Willie Nelson.
- Mike Geyer.
